ND cattle, sheep inventory down; goats unchanged
The number of cattle and calves in North Dakota at the beginning of the year stood at 1.7 million, down 1% from the previous year and the fourth straight year of a decrease.
The Agriculture Department also says in its latest livestock inventory reports that the state's sheep and lamb inventory dropped to its lowest level on record, at 78,000 head.
Both the 2010 North Dakota sheep and calf crops were at record lows.
The number of goats in North Dakota on Jan. 1 was unchanged over the year at 2,700.
